Art Rubric

The below rubric will be utilized for behavior and participation, assignments/worksheets/activities, and final projects this year in Art Class. Please keep this rubric for future reference as assignments and projects are sent home and students receive their report cards. Feel free to contact me with any comments or concerns. Thank you!

Understanding and Application of Key Concepts	The student does not demonstrate understanding of key concepts, artists/artwork or vocabulary. The student does not apply any concepts to the assignment.	The student shows some understanding of key concepts, artists/artwork, or vocabulary. The student does not properly apply knowledge to assignment.	The student understands the concepts, artist/artwork, and vocabulary being taught and successfully applies them to the assignment.	The student demonstrates understanding beyond proficiency. The student applies knowledge from current and previous lessons.
Craftsmanship and Use of Materials	The student demonstrates a complete lack of craftsmanship. The materials were used incorrectly or not at all.	The student lacks craftsmanship. The materials and tools require more practice.	The work shows neatness, precision and care. Materials are used as intended. The student demonstrates appropriate level of skill.	The student’s craftsmanship is impeccable. The student demonstrates exceptional skill and mastery with all materials and tools.
Creativity	The student demonstrates a complete lack of creativity. The assignment is copied or unoriginal.	The student shows some original ideas with a limited amount of details. Ideas are similar to others.	The student produces interesting and unique assignments which contain many details. The student is not afraid to take creative risks.	All assignments are completed with unique and unexpected ideas. The student expresses ideas and imagination beyond the requirements.
Effort and Participation	No effort was put forth. The student did not participate or refused to participate. The student required constant redirection.	Minimal effort was shown during the lesson. The student participated occasionally and/or needed some prompts to stay on task.	The student is an active participant and puts forth full effort for all assignments. The student has a positive outlook.	Student is on-task the entire time, a consistent participant and has outstanding work ethic. The student inquires about additional opportunities for learning.
Ability to Follow Instructions	The student does not follow the given instructions. The assignment is incomplete or completed incorrectly.	The student follows some directions, but assignment is incomplete or partly incorrect.	The student is able to follow directions as they are given and meets all requirements. The assignment is completed as intended.	The student is able to correctly follow all directions. The assignment is completed beyond expectations. Student shows initiative to assist peers if needed.
